Vincentennial and Tom Stockman take top honours at the Rondo Awards

The 2012 Rondo Awards, named after 1940's b-movie actor Rondo Hatton, celebrate the best in classic horror research, creativity and film preservation.

This year's e-mail vote, conducted by the Classic Horror Film Board drew more than 3,100 ballots from around the world and it was great to see Tom Stockman get Monster Kid of the Year and the Vincentennial in St Louis, Missiouri score Best Fan Event.

Congratulations Tom and everyone in St Louis who was involved in last year's tribute to the late, great Vincent Price.

VINCENTENNIAL Nominated for a Rondo Award

Vincentennial, the Vincent Price 100th Birthday Celebration, which took place in St Louis last May has been nominated for a Rondo Award for “Best Fan Event”. Now in their 10th year, The Rondo Awards (named after the famous 1940s character actor Rondo Hatton) are given out annually for the year’s best horror-related ephemera by horror film fans and presented at the Wonderfest Hobby Expo in May in Louisville, Kentucky.

The World Premiere release of Roger Corman's The Masque of the Red Death Original Soundtrack

NEWS JUST IN.... The score to Roger Corman's 1964 classic The Masque of the Red Death by British composer David Lee is being released for the first-time ever through Quartet Records. Here's what they have to say...

Lee, a renowned jazz musician and songwriter for London’s West End, had already written music for a few British films, but The Masque of the Red Death was his most ambitious assignment. He wrote 50 minutes of score in less than three weeks, recording with a symphony orchestra at Pinewood Studios in London. The result was one of the most fascinatingly gothic and original scores ever composed for a horror film. It includes a lovely, lengthy waltz, perfectly synchronized with the film, in the crucial masquerade scene.

The masters containing the music recorded at Pinewood in 1964 were either lost or destroyed; thus, the score of The Masque of the Red Death, long demanded by fans, could not see the light of day – until now. This CD has been mastered from the film’s well-preserved music stem, courtesy of MGM. Unfortunately, of the 10 DME reels, only 9 have survived, so about eight minutes of music could not be included. Our sound engineer, José Luis Crespo, has done an amazing job of restoration, subjecting tracks to the most advanced CEDAR technique, and carefully adjusting the ups and downs in volume, now virtually undetectable. The final master was supervised and approved by Mr. David Lee, who is happy to see his work finally published – 48 years after it was composed!

The package includes a lavish 28-page full color booklet, with liner notes by the always-amazing Daniel Schweiger – including an exclusive interview with Roger Corman and David Lee.

London's Old Vic Tunnels play host to some Hammer horror classics in February

OK so this post isn't about Vinnie, but do you fancy seeing a a host of Hammer horror in the dark dank depths of The Old Vic Tunnels in London? Well, starting Friday 10 February, theflickerclub.com and Hammer are presenting bloody classics like The Reptile, Frankenstein Created Woman and The Vampire Lovers and bringing them face to face with their 21st century counterparts: Wake Wood, Let Me In and the eagerly-awaited The Woman in Black, starring Daniel Radcliffe.

While the screening for The Woman In Black sold out weeks ago, there's still a feast for fans, with special guests like novelist/film critic Kim Newman, historian Marcus Hearn and Hammer veteran Madeline Smith treating attendees with readings and introductions, plus there's the world premiere of the new HD version of Dracula that's not be missed.

Watch Rogues' Regiment (1948) starring Dick Powell and Vincent Price

Even when decked out in a Foreign Legion uniform, Dick Powell looked, talked and acted like an urban private eye. In 1948's Rogues' Regiment, American secret agent Whit Corbett (Dick Powell) joins the Legion in order to track down Nazi war criminal Carl Reicher (Stephen McNally) in French Indo-China.

Hampering his search is a native uprising which consumes most of the film's running time. Vincent Price contributes an amusingly despicable supporting role as Mark Van Ratten, an erudite art collector who sidelines in gunrunning.

The legacy of Vincent Price | The Vincent Price Art Gallery in East Los Angeles

The revamped Vincent Price Art Museum on the campus of East Los Angeles College looks amazing.

Originally opened back in 1957 by Vincent and his wife Mary, the collection includes artworks from Africa, New Guinea, ancient Egypt, Greece, Mexico, North America, South America, and works by important artist from the Renaissance to the present day, with some 2000 items from the Price's personal collection

The new art museum (which opened in May of this year) is the centerpiece of the college’s US$89m Performing and Fine Arts Center that includes workshops, seven gallery spaces and a 120-seat lecture hall for art history classes.

The museum is open to the public four days a week, Tuesday and Wednesday from 12noon to 4pm and Thursday and Friday from 12noon to 7pm.
