Conjurer's Kitchen to host Vincent Price's birthday in Birmingham in May

http://www.theelectric.co.uk/programme.php?film=1747

++++LAST 35 SEATS REMAINING++++

Birmingham-based culinary wizard Annabel de Vetten (aka Annabel Lecter) is cooking up a fantastic event on Sunday 28 May as her Conjurer's Kitchen plays host to Vincent Price's Birthday Bash at The Electric Cinema, starting 8pm. Tickets are selling fast, so book now!

Legendary horror actor Vincent Price is best remembered for his delightfully scary turns in such classic fright fests as House of Wax, The Fly and Theatre of Blood – and also being the voice of Michael Jackson’s Thriller and an inspiration for fantasy directors like Tim Burton.

But Vincent Price was also a Renaissance man with omnivorous appetite for life, art, travel – and fine food. In fact, in the 1960s, the ghoulish gourmand and his wife Mary published a number of celebrated cookbooks – including the lavish best-seller, A Treasury of Great Recipes, featuring a host of Mad Men-era treats, and Come Into the Kitchen, which was devoted to traditional American cuisine. Both of these gastronomic tomes have been given lavish reprints, while Cooking Price-Wise, based on the actor’s British 1970s TV show, will be back in print later this year.

Conjurer’s Kitchen is proud to celebrate the King of Horror’s culinary legacy by drawing from those tomes to call forth gastronomic ghosts of kitchens past iat Birmingham’s Electric Cinema, which will take place over the weekend on what would have been Vincent’s 106th birthday (he was born on 27 May 1911).

Special guest will be Vincent and Mary’s daughter Victoria Price, an author and inspirational speaker, who will pay tribute to her dad with a very personal presentation, and talk about his cultural legacy of inspirational living, dining, and exploring the world. Expect classic clips, tasty bites, and a few surprises!

Listen now to Vincent Price's The Book of Joe read by his daughter

 In the tradition of classic dog stories like Anna Quindlen’s Good Dog. Stay. and JR Ackerley’s My Dog Tulip, Vincent Price shared the heartwarming tale of his 14-year love affair with his mischievous yet endearing mutt Joe in the wonderful 1961 memoir, The Book of Joe: About a Dog and His Man, which is now out on audiobook, narrated by his daughter Victoria Price.

 Check it out on audible.

Vincent Price: The Art of His Life | An American Southwest and Hollywood tour celebrates the legacy of the iconic actor

WELCOME TO CAMP VINCENT II | 4-13 NOVEMBER 2016
Have you ever wanted to follow in the footsteps of Vincent Price, actor, art lover and Renaissance man? Well, following the success of our London tour last year, Peter Fuller and Victoria Price invite you to join them for a two-part US adventure that will encompass Vincent’s passion for indigenous art and provide a spirit of adventure that’s at the core of the Prices' philosophy to ‘Explore! Savor! Celebrate!’.

From New Mexico to Arizona and then from Hollywood to Malibu, you will experience the Art of Vincent’s Life with the people who knew him best: his daughter, Victoria and members of the Price family, who will be your guides as we explore native American pueblos, art and culture, which was something their dad was deeply passionate about; visit the Vincent Price Art Museum at the East Los Angeles College; tour his former Hollywood homes and favourite haunts, and be invited to an special remembrance service at the Price family’s much-loved beach.

Here’s a rundown of the itinerary, which has been split into two separate sessions. You can join us for both, either, or some of the Southern Californian and Santa Fe sessions. Whatever you decide, we can’t wait for you to join us on this truly amazing experience.

The Vincent Price Movie of the Week | While the City Sleeps (1956)

A killer is on the loose and smarmy media tycoon Vincent Price makes catching him the passport to a key job in his organisation. Ambitious rivals George Sanders and Thomas Mitchell are prepared to do almost anything, but both need the help of TV anchorman Dana Andrews.

In his last-but-one US film, director Fritz Lang casts a cynical eye over the world of popular journalism and the murder investigation takes second place to the assorted shifty dealings in the office. Ida Lupino, Rhonda Fleming and Sally Forrest all have a share in the twisting plot and the way in which they become pawns in the male characters' power games gives the story some of its most impressively sour moments.

It was on 16 May, 1956 that the thriller had its US premiere, before going on general release on 30 May.  And for your viewing pleasure, here it is in full.
